Philosophy Of Art Education
Art Education nurtures creativity and is essential for a well-rounded education. As an art educator, I am passionate about creating a student-focused learning environment. Every student is different by upholding unique interests and ideas that should be acknowledged and explored. I openly feel that students of all ages and backgrounds are more than capable of creating great work. In my classroom, I plan to provide an enriching environment to develop lifelong skills among my students. These skills encourage creativity, communication, and choice, not only in their art but in their life. I plan to teach students the history of art as well as contemporary artists so that they might be inspired and in turn, create something meaningful for themselves. I want to be seen as a guide that targets student interests and challenges them to try new things as they grow and learn. I intend to help students develop those problem-solving skills as they take chances and learn from their mistakes as artists. Sometimes, it’s not all about the end product but the process in which students evaluated, planned, learned, and grew to get that finished artwork.
A student-centered classroom environment builds student opinions and choices. Additionally, it allows for a greater understanding of the guidelines and expectations required for everyone to have a safe and enjoyable learning environment. I plan to use positive reinforcement to encourage positive behavior in and out of the classroom. Also, I intend to build personal relationships with my students. It is my understanding that positive student-teacher relationships encourage motivation and student behavior. I want my classroom environment to overflow with a welcoming, loving, safe, and encouraging atmosphere in which students feel free to participate. I deeply desire for every student, no matter their differences, to know they are loved and belong. I want my students to leave my class with a prominent knowledge and appreciation of the arts. Moreover, I hope they leave my classroom with greater confidence in their skills, voice, creativity, and self-expression.
